Connecting the Dots

Someone recently asked me what excites me the most about working in an organization like CLC.  If I am really honest, it is those times when I am able to connect the dots for our teams around the world and help in unexpected ways.  Here is a typical story about how this can happen.

It all started with an urgent -mail from our team leader in India.  Christopher had just found out that a container of used Christian books that he was expecting from the UK was not coming after all.  Our India team was planning a huge event to get these books in people’s hands in November and this had been a special annual sale for several years.  Quality Christian books, even used ones in good condition, are highly valued in India, especially at reasonable prices.

Christopher asked me if their was anything we could do to help and I told him we would do our best to get him as many books as we could.  Several years ago, we started a new program called Christian Book Link and have been collecting, sorting and sending quality used Christian books all over the world.

Our team got into high hear telling friends of the ministry and our church partners about this urgent need.  Quickly, we began getting more books and Bibles than ever.  Interestingly, this need for books and Bibles came at exactly the same time as we were beginning to prepare a container to go to Liberia and so the need was also greater than ever.

In God’s time, we did get enough books donated, sorted and sent, but we were not able to get then to India in time for their normal November event.  Knowing that the books were going to be late, Christopher and his team decided to hold their big sale in April instead.  As you can see from the pictures, people swarmed the tables from the moment that books were put out.  Thousands of books and Bibles were distributed in a matter of days at prices people could afford.

This project could not have happened without the generosity of Christians in the USA who were willing to give their books and others who volunteered their time to sort and repack the books for shipment.  It never ceases to amaze me how little becomes much when God is involved.  This situation was really convicting for me as well as I realized how many Christian books I have in my own home and how I could personally donate some of my treasure.  Simply donating books to a program like CLC’s Christian Book Link is a way to give them a new lease on life and to get them off our bookshelves and into people’s hands that may never hear the gospel in any other way.

I’m with you Dave – I love to see how God connects the dots and His purposes are fulfilled. It seems that so many times we don’t see the connections until the end – I guess that’s why the beginning is always approached with faith.

Thanks for this Dave, and especially the photos! I know how important an event the annual sale is for ELS India, and therefore am very glad that CLC USA could help out in this way. And for the record, I like CR’s comment abt the beginning being approached with faith!
