Reaching the Hispanic Community In Philadelphia

This past week, I had the privilege of meeting with Rev. Miguel Diaz and Pastor Jose Miguel Roque to plan our upcoming Hispanic Pastor’s Breakfast at Primera Iglesia Cristiana Misionera.  We will have our CLC author, Christopher Shaw, speaking and presenting his book – Lift Up Your Eyes.  I first heard about the book when I visited CLC in Colombia and read a few of the devotional excerpts that had been translated into English.  CLC Publications released the book in English last fall and I have really enjoyed using the book in my personal devotions.  This breakfast will happen on Saturday, May 2nd and is a free event for Spanish speaking pastors and leaders in Philadelphia and South Jersey.

To my shame, I have not really been aware of all that God is doing in the Hispanic community in Philadelphia.  This may be partly because I do not speak Spanish, but also because this has not been an area of focus for CLC in the USA.  As you will see from the pictures, there is a lot going on.  Most impressive is the well stocked Spanish Christian bookstore located at the Radio Salvacion building.  We will be partnering with this station in advertising our event.  pray with me that we will be able to do more in the years to come in reaching this growing and needy community.

The church where we will be holding our Hispanic pastor’s breakfast on May 2nd

The outside of the church is deceptive and looks like any other business in the area.

Inside is a spacious fellowship hall used for meetings, weddings, etc.

It is certainly large enough for the 100 plus people that we are praying will attend our breakfast.

The pulpit area in the sanctuary is beautifully decorated.

The church seats over 500 people and has several hundred in attendance every Sunday

The Spanish Christian bookstore at Radio Salvacion has a HUGE selection of Spanish Christian music.

Books were also well stocked as well as many unique gift items.

They really made great use of the space that they had available.

This is certainly the best stocked Spanish Christian bookstore in Philadelphia –

what a great resource for the community.
